Why Winter Tires?
- Winter tires are designed to improve performance at any temperature less than 7°C. The soft rubber compound of winter tires provides better adhesion to road surfaces. As the temperature drops further, winter tire performance increases accordingly. For example, as much as 55% of a tire's performance in icy snow comes from the soft rubber compound adhesion and not from the tread.
- Winter tires provide drivers with exceptional stopping and traction when compared to all-season tires. Braking tests were performed in -20°C on a road covered with packed snow and ice. When equipped with winter tires, the vehicle stopped 11.6 meters (38 feet) sooner than it did with all-season tires.
